First Time on Water

First time on water?

Staying on water can feel unfamiliar before you arrive. The practical details vary from one stay to another, so BOTELL shows what matters before you request a booking — access, bathroom setup, drinking water, movement, noise, heating and weather.

You do not need boating experience for a normal stationary BOTELL stay. You are booking accommodation, not a boat to operate.

What changes when you stay on water?

Water is part of the stay, not just the view. That can affect how you step onboard, how much movement you feel, where showers are, how water systems work and what weather means for comfort. The exact answer belongs to the specific stay.

Will it move?

Possibly. A stay at berth can move with the water, wind, passing traffic or changing conditions. How noticeable it feels varies by stay and conditions. Check the listing for the practical notes that apply to that stay.

How do I get onboard?

Access varies. Depending on the stay, you may use marina pathways, steps, a gangway or deck access. Step height, handholds and mobility limitations should be shown on the specific listing when relevant. Do not assume hotel-style level access.

What are toilets and showers like?

There is no universal setup. An on-water stay may have onboard facilities, shared marina facilities or a combination of both. BOTELL shows the actual arrangement for the specific stay before booking.

Can I drink the water?

Water systems vary. Follow the drinking-water guidance for the specific stay. Do not assume that every onboard tap provides potable water.

Will it be cold or humid?

Comfort depends on the stay, its heating and ventilation, the season and the weather. The specific listing should explain the practical conditions and any limitations that matter.

Will it be noisy?

You may hear water, wind, marina activity or nearby city life. The level and timing vary by location and stay. Check the stay-specific notes rather than assuming silence.

What happens in bad weather?

Weather can affect comfort, access or normal operations. If conditions require it, follow the current instructions for your stay from BOTELL or the responsible host. Changes to a confirmed booking follow the applicable booking terms.

Do I need boating experience?

No, not for a normal stationary BOTELL accommodation stay. You are not expected to navigate, sail or operate the vessel. Any unusual requirement must be disclosed before booking.

Before you request a stay, check these eight things

Access
How you get onboard, including steps, gangways, handholds and any mobility limitations that matter.
Sleeping
Where and how you sleep, including the real bed or berth setup and the space around it.
Bathroom
What is onboard, what is shared ashore and how the arrangement works in practice.
Water
Which water is suitable for drinking and whether the stay uses separate water systems.
Movement & noise
What you may notice from water, wind, marina activity and the surrounding area.
Heating & season
How the stay is heated and what conditions or seasonal limitations apply.
Weather
What changes in poor conditions and where current guest instructions come from.
Verification
Whether the stay has completed BOTELL’s approved verification process. Never assume a stay is We Checked unless the listing explicitly shows that verified state.

We Checked means checked

We Checked is not a decorative badge. It appears only after BOTELL has checked and recorded the practical details for that stay through the approved verification process. If verification is not complete, BOTELL does not present the stay as We Checked.

A real example: bathroom and water on Fuerte in Tallinn

Fuerte is a BOTELL stay in Old City Marina, Tallinn. Marina showers and WC are nearby, and Fuerte also has a marine WC onboard.

Onboard, fresh water and seawater are separate. The blue-marked tap is fresh water, seawater is operated by foot pedals, and tank water is not recommended for drinking. Potable marina water is available nearby.

That example is specific to Fuerte. Other on-water stays may use different access, bathroom and water systems. It describes Fuerte’s bathroom and water setup only and is not a We Checked result.
